Be careful what you wish for.
I have been waiting patiently impatiently for Spring to arrive for six months.
Now that it is here, I have to wonder what in the heck I was thinking.
I actually have to DO all that work that I only had to dream about during the winter; while sitting in the recliner watching football and basketball no less.
A couple of weekends ago, it actually was semi-warm and hadn’t snowed or rained in about three days.
The ground was ,strangely, dry enough to till. I pulled the ol’ mantis tiller out of the shed and was concerned when I noticed it was still half full of gas ( mixed with 2-cycle oil – 50 -1 ).
I pulled out the choke, and then pulled the cord, and it started on the first pull! It has never done that before. BONUS! Granted it has been always been easy to start, but not that easy. I may never “winterize” again.
After the first tilling of the garden, I let the girls take over and let them do their thing. The girls being my chickens.
They actually can be very helpful, when they are not tearing everything up that you don’t want them to tear up! They eat all the bugs and weeds, and roots that will multiply now that the tiller has buzzed them up! Plus, they lay the best tasting eggs in the world and they fertilize as they go!
More on the them and why everyone should have backyards chickens, at a later time.
I got the potatoes ( Yukon Gold and Red Pontiac ) and the onions ( Walla Walla Sweets) planted.
I planted carrots, parsnips, radish, and spinach too.
Started “the break in process” on three bales of straw for straw bale gardening experiment. Hopefully , they will not burst into flames during the “cooking” process. They are soaked with water and nitrogen fertilizer. More on this process later, also.
Muscles starting to lock up now. Time for Ibuprofen and sleep.
